Castlegate Surgery maintains a welcoming and friendly environment. Dr.Azar is both professional and considerate. She listens, is demonstrably understanding and compassionate, gives clear, honest and helpful opinions and takes actions without delay when necessary. I live alone, have chronic illnesses and serious mobility issues. At my age, and with the health challenges I experience, having a doctor of Dr Azar’s high standards is a great support and reassurance. Thank you. |

Well i got to see someone after waiting 2 weeks and forever on the phone. The doctor didn’t seem all that fussed about what I went for, also referred me to the wrong hospital and didn’t give me the paper work I have to take for a blood test, but I I then had to return to the surgery, lucky the receptionist know what they are doing. Since the surgery has become new rivers it is absolutely diabolical |

I wouldn’t attend. My son, Robert, attended instead, in my absence. Dr Sattar wouldn’t phone me for a phone consultation on speaker as she had done on the previous occasion re a different matter, which would have made it a ‘conference call’ including my son in the surgery as, sadly, was necessary. Such allowances need to be made when dealing with unpredictable dementia patients such as myself. |

Rude and unprofessional GP. She asked me unrelated questions to my visit and then wouldn’t answer my extra query, stating I only had ten minutes and it was up! I don’t ask to see a GP often, but when I do, I expect courtesy. |
I tried to get an urgent appointment by phone. I was offered one at Cattlegate but couldn’t get there. The other option was to wait 2 weeks to be seen at Church street. I tried to make one online but it was after 10.30 so not possible. My husband attended an appointment the next day and asked for one for me as we were concerned about waiting too long. Miraculously I was seen that day and referred to QE2.I have an appointment’s there next Tuesday which is amazing. It seems one must go to the surgery in order to get an appointment. In the end all went well |

Econsult is fairly swift to complete, but you do need about 20 minutes to do it. It’s a shame it’s only available to start completing between 0700 and 0930 (effectively). I received two conflicting sets of messages about the appointment: one set said it would be a phone call between 1400 and 1800; the other said a face to face appointment at 1500. To clarify, I went to Castlegate Surgery in the morning (as well as for the appointment in the afternoon). |

Dr Williams was very prompt seeing me, she is an excellent Doctor and has arranged all the appropriate tests required for my problem. Unfortunately she will be retiring in December as partner at the practice. This will be a great loss to the practice, of someone who has given dedication and care to both the practice and patients alike for many years. |

Also nearly 4 weeks after my blood test the results have still not been posted into my NHS app although the doctor says the results are available to her via ‘another web site’. The locum GP didn’t seem at all interested in my concerns about me being nauseous after taking medication in turning . When I talked about my psi levels not being improved by the pain medication , her answer was to add 10mg of Amytriptaline per night. On top of the other pain medication??? Icfe I need to speak to someone who will engage more with me about problems of medication and not just add on more, possibly, addictive, drugs. I would not see this locum GP again. Re my wait for a right hip replacement, after shrugging her shoulders, and saying that’s just how it is, there’s nothing I can do. She did finally agree to write to the consultant Ms George, to say that l had 4 cancelled In October and I needed an appointment soon. Im not particularly confident that a letter will be sent. If so I think it’s likely to be very superficial and not something that reflects me or my hip problem. Not a good reflection on NRH services in my opinion |

Doctor was very friendly, kind and understanding and prescribed my daughter the medication she needed for her bronchitis. However I was disappointed in how the lady on the phone spoke to me when I originally called to say 111 had made a referral for my daughter to be seen by a service within the hour; she read out the symptoms in the referral in a very blasé tone that came across very sarcastic and rude as if my 8 month old daughter didn’t need to be seen and ended with ‘someone will get back to you today if you need an appointment’ very bluntly. A different lady who called back 1.5 hours later to make the GP appointment for her was very friendly. |

The GP gave no solution, no help just wanted to throw more medication at me and get off the phone quick, didn’t give any advise on what I should do if I get worse just said to call back if I wanted signing off from work, no understanding of chronic pain, no support whatsoever. |

I called for an appointment Thursday morning at around 8:20am, after I had checked the econsult system at 7am and found it to be turned off. The lady on the phone was lovely and supportive but whoever advised her I should attend the urgent walk-in centre was neglible in their duty of care. The needs of patients should be met by the practice, and if the surgery should fall short on their duty of care, an apology should be made – I am saying this because I submitted an econsult Friday morning (thankfully they had been turned back on) and received an appointment for that day, which I could have been given the Thursday there and then. |

I was seen30mins late. Then the locum doctor didn’t sign my prescription and sent it to an off duty doctor to sign which resulted in me visiting the pharmacy 3 times to no avail! I then revisited the surgery to ask what had happened, the surgery then forwarding my prescription to Ware via email for signing and then I had to revisit the pharmacy again to get my prescription. Apparently the locum had been doing this all day! Why did he just not sign the prescription? |

Prescription didn’t arrive Wednesday afternoon, so had to call 111 to ask them to prescribe the tablets. They prescribed two tablets to another pharmacy. Went to collect the rest the following day, still hadn’t been received. Walked to surgery and was told it was to be actioned, collect in two hours. Still never received. Walked to surgery, shut for training. Went to castle gate shut for training. 111 couldn’t help as harry was at school and not with me. Called pharmacy at 5.45pm and just come through. Harry was incredibly stressed especially as dr said it could be quite serious and prescription was urgent. I had to take the day off to sort out. If I hadn’t no one would have sorted |

I am not a happy bunny. On 3rd July started suffering some discomfort; on 8th july I asked for an appointment, attended 16th july. Doctor arranged for some tests, diagnosed an intestinal blockage, forgot to ask me if I was Lactose Intolerant, forgot to tell me that she had prescribed a laxative (discovered a couple of weeks later when my wife said I should check NHS). After test results came through made another appointment for 6th august: cancelled because Doctor was sick then August 13th. Different doctor said continue with OTC laxative provided by pharmacist as an alternative to lactulose and prescribed contiflo for occasional night-time incontinence; read Contiflo leaflet and it looked like opposite of what was needed but followed instructions, despite being up in the night up to seven times; it did make things worse (one incident in ten days vs three in one year) so gave up. After three or four weeks on Laxative saw no sign of blockage being cleared up. Made another appointment, doctor listened, tried pressing abdomen, found no hard lumps so guessed the blockage was cleared and told me I could stop taking laxative. After it wore off I find stools comprise lots of little pellets as they did eight weeks ago. I am back at square one. If there was a blockage there still is one. I ought to have a MRI or Ultrasound scan to see whether there is a blockage and, if so, WHAT is blocking my intestine, if not need to find out the cause of the symptoms. |

The GP was un-empathetic and bordered on being quite aggressive. She reports in her notes that I’d said I’d had ‘a bad day at work’. But in fact what I had actually expressed is that I’d been very anxiously awaiting my results, and this had impacted me emotionally making my day difficult. This is quite different from her negative view. This further emphasises her un-empathetic, un-compassionate and insensitive approach. She was incredibly condescending in explaining the results, and made the appointment a very difficult and unpleasant experience. She even dropped the box of gloves on me when reaching for them to do my examination, sending them flying through the air onto me and then touching me on my breast area. When it came to the end of the appointment I felt I needed to leave as she had suggested the appointment was over saying thanks and goodbye very aggressively, so I left. I also felt I needed to leave as the appointment had been thoroughly unpleasant and stressful to navigate. She seemed to be very stressed, projecting of this the entire appointment. Not even responding when I politely asked how her day had been, or had it been a busy day for her. A thoroughly awful patient experience. I’ve never felt as uncomfortable with a GP. |

I came to have a dressing checked on a shin injury. The nurse (Andrea) saw me on time and on̈ removal of the dressing advised that the wound was now healed. She gave me advice on future care and discharged me. |
I didn’t know if my son had to come with me or not. As it didn’t specify. And I wanted to explain to the doctor what we think about him without him. So I took him out of school for nothing really. And had to ask favours so my other kids were picked up. And when I went to the appointment to be honest could have been done over a telephone or email. He just said I need some reports. Which he doesn’t even has to give me. And mentioned that normally ADHD is overdiagnosed. That’s all. So I suposse I need to make another appointment now to give the reports from school, tutor and us. The appointment was made following 2 missed calls from the surgery and a follow up conversation with the receptionist who advised it was likely to do with osteoporosis. I thought it was in response to my letter sent re arthritis and a recent heavy fall resulting in a broken wrist. At the appointment Dr Sims was also confused as she had not seen my letter. |
The Dr I saw was polite but could have provided more information and explanations as to why he was recommending different tests, and practical instructions. I had to ask many questions to find out what to do. He was not particularly communicative. |

The doctor that I saw asked me to go for blood tests for fertility, so I booked an appointment at Hertford County Hospital and when I got there they had no record of any blood tests for me. When I contacted Castlegate the receptionist also did not see any blood tests on my notes. I had to go home and wait for the doctor to call me, and when she did she told me that I should go to the walk in and that I could have the tests done at any time (even though I said to her I thought I had to go at specific points during my menstrual cycle). I went to the walk in, had to wait an hour and then when I went back to see a different doctor he told me that my results are all void and that I need to go and have them done again because I tested at the wrong time of my cycle. A lot of time wasted because I was given the wrong information. |

I found Dr Quarterman (not sure if that is that is correct spelling?) quite condescending and when I said that I had two moles that I was worried about he was quick to jump in and say well the appointments only for one so I said I booked this appointment for moles, which I stated on my online form, that I was worried about. He did then look at both of them. I wouldn’t recommend to any of my family to go and see him |

Complete muddle. Received t/c from surgery on 26th June to offer me a docs telephone consultation as I have fractured my shoulder. This was great and told a doc would phone me on morning of 3rd July. I then received a text message on 2nd July informing me that I had an appt at 10:20 am on 3rd July at the Ware surgery where I am registered. I phoned the surgery to check if this was correct, ( no problem if appt was at the surgery). I was told that my appt was a t/c. When I queried why the appt at the surgery given I was informed that it was “ a blip “ on the system that gave the reminders to patients as surgery appts rather than t/cs. I have never had a telephone consultation from a GP before so as given the time of 10:20 I waited for the call. At 12:15 I decided to phone the surgery to find out if I was going to receive a call. At the same time a doc called me. I was told by the surgery that no time is given for doctors calling patients. This was all a muddle. When I spoke to the doctor, the consultation was great. She was lovely in her manner and listened to me. I was given the time I needed on the call. Thankyou doctor. |

The doctor I met with was kind and thorough. I do think the econsult process has to be improved as the first time I did it it said I required urgent treatment so I did it again and downplayed my symptoms in order to get an in person GP appointment (I knew I didn’t require an A&E visit!). A scan I had back in January should have been repeated 4 months later but no one picked this up and it was only when I mentioned the scan to the doctor that she viewed the notes and has now put in a request for a repeat scan and blood tests. So generally communication and follow up with patients needs improvement. |

I came back from my appointment sobbing, I felt stupid and that my problem was completely dismissed. Was sent leaflets on how to help myself when I could have found them online and they are no help. No real help or advice. Spoke about body imagine and was told to basically just ‘stop worrying’. I spoke about how skin picking is out of control and it’s affecting my life and was told there’s nothing they can do, I was told to just moisturise. Which is no help as I mentally cannot stop picking, I was not taken seriously. Was told no one looks at my feet so it’s not really a problem. |

I don’t think saying “I don’t look like a person with PCOS” is a medical advice and reassurance I was looking after. I would prefer more evidence based evaluation. There are many women who have been diagnosed with this problem and they don’t all have a visible beard and are significantly overweight to have this condition. Also sending me a link to Google results with possible explanation for my problem is not very helpful at all, this is something we all do before we even contact NHS practice and that’s not something i seek from doctor, especially when they don’t provide explanation that is relevant to my situation. Finally, advice “to have a bath and relax” is also extremely patronising and has nothing to do with medicine. If doctor assumed the stress is the reason for my issues, she should issue a cortisol test not bath. |

I live. 10 minute walk from my usual church st Surgery, when asked if I’d mind going to Hertford for a 4 o’clock appointment I said alright. It took an around trip with a 45 minute wait to see the doctor which only took 5-6 mins no moans about the doctors she was good, of over 1 1/2 hours. The surgery was running 45 mins late. |

A regular appointment with practice nurse for leg dressings to be changed. A very professional and knowledgeable nurse who knows her patients well and sees the patient as a person not a money earning bottom line to the practice. The treatment table despite apparently being new doesn’t work unless the nurse holds the electric cable pushed into the socket on the table, H&S issue with very high risk of electric shock to the nurse and possibly the patient too. |

Went for chest infection twice in two weeks. Fobbed off the first time, second time sent to hospital incase it was blood clot on the lung. DESPITE its on my file I have chest infections a lot. Went to hospital & low & behold it was a BAD chest infection. My mum lost work to watch my kids, my fiancé also lost work to come with me & I was worried sick for my unborn baby that is high risk that I’m currently 20 weeks pregnant with. I should have just been given antibiotics after seeing the GP, rather than being unnecessarily sent elsewhere to be told what I KNEW it was. And then we wonder why hospitals are over run – because they’re seeing to people like me when they shouldn’t have to. In future – I will refuse to be fobbed off or pushed onto another service. |

I sent in a repeat prescription request on Wed 5th and chased on 7th, 10th, 11th, 12th. It was being ignored by the doctor it was assigned to. In the meantime my anaemia symptoms returned and I struggled to stay awake and drive. I also fell over twice. I had to book an emergency appointment on Thursday 13th to get the prescription as I wasn’t getting anywhere complaining. I was then told I had to be seen because my blood test (after 4 months of tablets) was within range so my symptoms were unexplained. In the last 4 months I have been diagnosed with a chronic condition which causes anaemia. It shows the doctor did not consider my record at all. The appointment on Friday 14th was cancelled at an hours notice due to staff sickness. I was asked to rebook and sent a link for a phone appointment. I chose Tuesday 18th 2-6pm. I didn’t receive a call or voicemail, and then received a text in the evening saying I didn’t attend an appointment at Church Street at 3. I didn’t book this appointment and have the school run at 3. My symptoms minus the tiredness have settled now, I don’t need an appointment but I do need confirmation that my iron tablets have been added as a repeat so I don’t have this situation next time. The complete disregard for how ill I felt over those 9 days is unacceptable. |

My appointment should have been by telephone I have text confirmation of that it was cancelled because the doctor was ill I was sent a link to rebook the appointment the next day which was between 8.&1.30 the following day which was fine yesterday I got a text to say that I did not attend my appointment at 10.15 which I new nothing about and did not book I phoned they arrangea telephone call for 5.15 yesterday which actually came at 2.00 I had the appointment after seeing the physio on Monday who suggested upping the pain killers so I could do exercises while I am waiting for the x.ray result I eventually got it sorted and everything is fine now but when you are in pain and these things happen it does not help the situation I have no complaints about the treatment I received just how it was handled I asked that a note be made that I did not miss tha application as a knew nothing about it |

However I got called at 6 on the dot and it could not have been clearer that the doctor was just trying to rush through my review to get me off the phone as it was the end of the day. Did not discuss how I wanted to proceed, did not discuss if I was happy staying on the dose despite me saying I feel like it’s only helping to an extent. Then proceeded to put me on a 6 month repeat after me only taking it for 3 weeks. Last time I had a review with Roy Gillman and he was very thorough and really listened, couldn’t fault him at all. This time with a different person was just rushed so they could finish for the day. |

Doctor Munir is a genuine asset to the new river health and the NHS. It’s no secret that GPs and the NHS are squeezed, under pressure and pressed for time. However, Dr Munir delivers high-quality, personalised care that promotes the well-being and health of patients (at least she has for me). My pregnancy and fertility journey has been pretty horrendous but she’s supported (and validated) me at every turn. She’s also listened and helped when mentally I’ve been feeling quite strange and alien as a new mum. – She listens and treats the whole person, including physical, mental, and social aspects of health. – She’s established a long-term healthcare relationship to monitor and manage health over time. I feel relieved if I know it’s her I will be speaking to or seeing. – I feel she has advocated for me. She supports patients in navigating the healthcare system, ensuring they receive appropriate care and resources. – I feel genuine empathy and compassion from her. When I was struggling to conceive she was kind and listened and signposted me to the right support, when I was struggling with hyperemisis she was someone I felt a good bedside manner from. When I struggled with postnatal depression she helped me feel a lot less strange. It’s never really been plain sailing as a mum but I’m glad she is my GP. I appreciate some of this is vague so happy to talk to someone on the phone if helpful. |
